“National Police Day” popularly known as PoliceCommemoration Day was observed in Jammu Zone with a ceremonial parade atGulshan ground Jammu.  The day iscelebrated every year in the memory and honour of SI Karam Singh and his tenbrave hearts of CRPF (1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn) who on 21st Oct 1959, scarified theirlives while holding the attack by PLA at Hot spring in Ladakh at the height of4681 meters above the sea level. Impressive functions were organized in all 10Districts of Jammu Province where large number senior Police Officers, retiredpolice personnel, members of the martyr’s families and members of civil societyparticipated.

In the winter capital Jammu, the main function was conductedat Gulshan Ground Jammu where Shri Mukesh Singh-IPS IGP Jammu Zone took thesalute of the Commemoration Day Parade. GOs of all Jammu based Units, apart from a large number of senior /retired Police Officers, media personnel and prominent Citizens of Jammu alsoparticipated in the function.

IGP Jammu Zone read out the name of 292 brave martyrs of thecountry which includes martyrs from Police Organizations and PMF like BSF,CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, NCB, NDRF and FS, CD & HG. While lauding the role ofbrave martyrs, he said J&K Police has been rendering yeoman service to theNation and the society under most hostile, difficult and challengingcircumstances at the cost of their personal safety and comfort. He prayed forthe heavenly peace of the departed souls and also for the prosperity andwelfare of their families. While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Singh paid richtributes to all those Martyrs who have laid down their lives for Unity andIntegrity of our nation in different parts of the Country during the last one year.

Later, IGP Jammu Zone also interacted with NOK of martyrs.He paid a patient hearing to the grievances of NOKs of Martyrs and assured fullsupport and timely action on the requests submitted by them.

Earlier all the Jammu based GOs assembled at Police MartyrsMemorial at Railway Station where rich tributes were paid to all the martyrs.On this occasion, a blood donation camp was also organized in which many seniorOfficers and other volunteers including the team Jammu donated blood.

Prominent among those who attended the function include;Transport Commissioner J&K, ADGP Railways J&K, Divisional commissionerJammu, IGP Armed Jammu , DC Jammu, DIG –DKR-Range,  SSP Jammu ,SSP PCR,  SSP Crime , SSPSecurity Jammu,  SSP CID SB Jammu,  (Nodel officers) and Commandants of otherJammu based battalions,  SSP APCR and allGOs of Jammu District, besides Sh.Ravinder Raina -State BJP President and other dignitaries also attended the function.

Moreover, another impressive function was organized again inthe evening at Police Martyrs Memorial Railway Station, Jammu where a largenumber of Police/Civil families assembled to light candles and paid richtributes to the Martyrs of the nation
